Born in Chicago, growing up in Berlin, and now completing my Bachelor’s in fine-art in Dundee, I have come to believe that before approaching photography as an art form about content, documentation, or memorializations, photography must be understood from a different perspective. Questions about the nature of the photograph are what take up the majority of my artistic practice. Following foundationalist beliefs, my core artistic practise is concerned with creating a theoretical understanding of photography through the visual arts. My photographs, and the presentation of them, are philosophical explorations into this question: what is the ontology and phenomenology of a photograph? On the most general level, I am picking apart the dynamics between the five major parties involved in photography: the photographer, the camera, the subject, the photograph and the viewer, with the hope of coming one step closer to answering my question.
