GENERATOR are happy to be opening our doors again to welcome you to a faaaabulous new show by Sally Hackett!

Sally Hackett primarily works with clay, turning the brain’s intangible, transient thoughts into tangible objects with the hands - giving feelings solidity, giving bones to a ghost. Relationships, heartbreak, vulnerability and escapism are depicted in tableaux installations and sculptures. A dark humour is scribbled over each piece as a softening to its subject matter. Humour is used as a healing mechanism, the caricature as a recognisable form. Concerned with the loss of artistic freedom that adulthood brings, Sally’s work aims to reignite the pure joy and abandon of the uninhibited hand, often collaborating on educational projects with a wide range of community groups.

For ‘A toilet is a wishing well’ Hackett will be creating an immersive installation that re-presents mundane materials of domestic waste as fantastical, animate sculptures. Recalling the innate imaginative joys of infancy, these works explore states of pareidolia and pathetic fallacy - the assignment of human qualities and emotions to inanimate objects, whereby we project our own feelings onto materials, imbuing them with parts of ourselves: the tissue becomes a dove, a piece of hazard tape blows around a building site like a manic eel. Encapsulating both humour and an innate sadness and loneliness, these sculptural works will be presented alongside short video pieces and a soft summer breeze.

Our opening times are: Thursday - Sunday 12pm - 5pm

We ask that masks are worn inside, and we can provide masks for those who don’t have one with them!
