And there were non to speak for us: Generator’s statement on the UK Supreme Court ruling of 16/4/25

Yesterday the UK Supreme Court handed down a ruling that has stated that sex is assigned at birth and immutable, regardless of reality exemplified by the widely documented lived experiences of trans and intersex people. This ruling is meant to excludes trans women from both recognition and protection under the law as women, and can be broadly applied to all transgender individuals. This is the latest in a series of moves to rapidly and efficiently erode the legally enshrined safety and validity of trans peoples that has existed for the past 15 years. Even with the protections offered to us by the 2010 equality act we still experience violence on a personal and institutional level as a result of being trans.

Generator Projects staunchly rejects this interpretation of the law and vehemently condemns the judges that unanimously made this ruling, their choice to exclude any trans people from speaking as part of the case & for their of intense moral or philosophical bankruptcy. This ruling will come with a body count.

The nature of the law is to represent the all peoples,

but the voices of trans people, particularly trans women, have been absent from all major forms of this public discourse. Whilst a small group funded by immense amounts of private wealth have been given the privilege of being heard, so we urge all other cultural institutions to actively platform and give space to trans people.

The ‘trans debate’ echoes a pattern of history similar to the ‘Jewish question’ - this ambiguity over the rights of a group to exist can only end in the public and later private erasure of that group. So we state that trans women are women unequivocally and without question. We ask everyone who is part of the wider generator community to continue listen to and speak up for our trans colleagues across the UK.

Generator will remain a site that inclusive of trans people in every facet of our policy, programming & community.
