Generator Projects is pleased to present Meet Café, an exhibition of new work by internationally practicing artists; Jack Duplock, Heidi Kilpelainen / HK119 and Juneau Projects.

All three artists, in their varying approaches and contrasting outcomes, explore music, performance and the latent horror of contemporary culture. Building on Pop Art's foundations with a DIY mentality, which hints at the immediacy of today’s society, they highlight and explore the complex points at which the viewer becomes spectator to a work, re-evaluating communal acts of patronage.
Jack Duplock’s works on paper and canvas simultaneously reference the past and the future in compositions that are somehow removed from real time. His kitschy aesthetic combines non-traditional art materials such as glitter and pens with paint and collage to depict scenes that reference horror films, music and popular culture. Places and acts are emphasised in his works, positioning the viewer as silent witness to his often apocalyptic visions.

Finnish artist Heidi Kilpelainen’s performance and video art captures a jilted vision of Weimar cabaret. Her homemade pop videos represent a certain cynicism toward contemporary culture, as well as contributing to it with her own brand of twisted iconography. Kilpelainen’s one-woman videos are placed sometime in the future while referencing Bauhaus and Futurism.

Juneau Projects' performances are embodied in the gallery as detritus of destructive acts of creativity. Their video works document destruction as creative act; burning microphones and shredding contact mikes to capture and record the outputs of their final moments. They present their creation through destruction in the form of installation within the gallery space.
