Who Are These People?
Robb Mitchell, Alex Gillespie, Brian O’Neill
FRI 25 MAY 9.30PM – 12AM SAT 26 MAY 12.00PM – 5.00PM
Location: Blinshall Studios, 42 Blinshall street
Interaction designer Robb Mitchell collaborates with psychologists Dr Alex Gillespie and Dr Brian O'Neill on a Generator Projects commission designed to explode our concepts of autonomy, personality and control. Taking place as part of the Six Cities Design Festival, the events at Blinshall Street will demonstrate a powerful new medium for enhancing and subverting social interaction. A website will be launched in June which will incorporate this new mode of interaction and promote the building of alternative global bridges of understanding (www.generatorprojects.co.uk/offsite.html).
Robb Mitchell provokes interactions between strangers. As an artist and designer he produces "social icebreaking" kinetic furniture, installation, interventions, games and performance. He has also had leading roles in the development of a variety of interdisciplinary projects such as the new media hacklab, Electron Club at the CCA in Glasgow, Machinista, the artificial intelligence in the arts festival, Glasgow 2004, and a series of parties at The Chateau and other non-traditional venues across Glasgow and London.
Alex Gillespie is a social psychologist based at Stirling University where his theoretical research concerns The Self and Self-Reflection; specifically how the self emerges through social interaction, communication, intersubjectivity and perspective taking. His empirical research focuses upon tourists in India and various historical personages. Alex is also currently co-chair of the Organising Committee for the Fifth International Conference on the Dialogical Self.
